COVID-19 and GME Resources for Residents and Fellows: A Letter from Christopher D. Harner, MD, FAOA, President
The following is a letter sent out to all CORD Affiliates on April 4, 2020
Dear CORD Affiliate,
On Friday, March 27, 2020, 250 people tuned in for the Virtual Spring CORD Conference.
The Conference provided exceptional and timely content and a way to connect with the vibrant CORD community. I want to congratulate and thank AOA staff, Lee R. Leddy, MD, MsCR, FAOA, 2020 CORD Conference Program Chair, and Joshua C. Patt, MD, MPH, FAOA, Chair of the CORD/Academics Committee, for facilitating an important educational resource.
The Conference slide decks are now available for all conference registrants here.
Of particular importance is a last-minute session focused on the orthopaedic educational response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because AOA leadership considers this information so vitally important to our community and to all residents, fellows and educators, the COVID-19 session of the Conference is available to all CORD Affiliates.
The COVID-19 resources from the CORD Conference, provided on the AOA CORD webpage include:
- A pdf copy of the COVID-19 slides
- PowerPoint slide deck that includes a recording of the 70-minute session. This slide deck is designed to be used by faculty in various settings:
- Grand rounds
- Subspecialty conferences
- Sharing with your institutional GME offices in other surgical specialties.
If you were unable to attend the Conference, slides and access to the entire Conference recording are available for purchase on the AOA Store.
In addition, please regularly monitor the CORD Exchange, which is updated frequently with announcements regarding resident/fellow subspecialty education, and the AOA/CORD Resources for Graduate Medical Education webpage - among other resources, this webpage lists timely courses such as free AAHS courses, starting on April 5, and an OTA course on April 8.
I want to assure you that the AOA is committed to leading our profession in the forefront of developing GME for our future leaders (the faculty, residents and fellows) during this unprecedented time in our history.
With my greatest sincerity,
Christopher D. Harner MD, FAOA
President, The American Orthopaedic Association
