About the Presenters:
David S. Jevsevar MD, MBA is the Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and regional Vice-President of Orthopaedics at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH and the Geisel School of Medicine in Hanover, NH. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA, and a medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington DC. He completed a general surgery internship at the Mercy Hospital of Pittsburg (now the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Mercy), a fellowship in biomechanical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA, and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and an orthopaedic surgical residency at Tufts University Affiliated Hospitals in Boston. He received a Master of Business Administration Degree from Auburn University in Auburn in AL.
Dr. Jevsevar was named chair of the AAOS Council on Research Quality in March 2016. He previously chaired the AAOS Committee on Evidence-Based Quality and Value and as a member of the Council on Research and Quality. He also has years of experience working and presenting with the AAOS Orthopaedic Quality Institute.
Michael Suk, MD, JD, MPH, FAOA, FACS is Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery for the Geisinger Health System based in Danville, PA. An internationally known talent for his contributions to the fields of orthopaedic fracture management, health care literacy, access and delivery, Dr. Suk is also an accomplished health care attorney and public health advocate. In 2016, Dr. Suk was appointed as Chief Physician Officer, Geisinger System Services, partnering with the Chief Operating Officer, to act as the key bridge between the clinical enterprise and the operating infrastructure as this position blends oversight of corporate and shared services such as facilities, health information management, and government relations. Of special note, in 2003, Dr. Suk was selected as a White House Fellow by President George W. Bush and served as Special Assistant to Secretary Gale A. Norton at the U.S. Department of the Interior. Throughout his career, Dr. Suk has been a vocal leader on public health issues and has spoken nationally on the role of organized medicine, resident work hours, obesity prevention and a variety of public health issues. Dr. Suk has been long active in organized medicine, having served in numerous leadership capacities including the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association and as Chair of the Health Policy Committee for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Board of Specialty Societies. In January 2016, Dr. Suk was selected as an Executive Fellow in the Baldrige Performance Excellence program, the nation’s public-private partnership dedicated to performance excellence. The associated award is the only of its kind given by the President of the United States and is managed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology of the US Department of Commerce.
